A new partnership between Dream The Change, CIC and Autism Anglia has been initiated

March 27, 2024

Dream The Change CIC hosted an inspiring meeting for parents of special needs children with Autism Anglia.

The move underscores our mission to bridge the gap between families from diverse backgrounds who have special needs children and service providers.

Parents connected with Dream The Change, CIC had the opportunity to meet with Mark Moffat, the Community Liaison from Autism Anglia at one of our recent Sport Sessions.

About Dream The Change

Dream The Change was founded with a visionary goal: to bridge the gap between families from diverse backgrounds with children who have special educational needs and disability and the service providers who can make a significant difference in their lives.

Jemal, Dream The Change CIC’s Co-Founder and Executive Director, said, “This initiative represents a beacon of hope and support, ensuring that no family connected with us feels isolated or without access to the resources and understanding they need.”

The Role of Autism Anglia

Autism Anglia plays a crucial role in this ecosystem as an independent charity dedicated to offering care, support, and understanding to autistic children, adults, and their families throughout East Anglia.

With services extending across Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk, all managed from their office in Colchester, the charity adopts a personalised approach.

This ensures that individuals are equipped with the skills and strategies they need, empowering them to recognise and celebrate their own strengths and capabilities.

Moreover, Autism Anglia, like Dream The Change CIC, is committed to spreading awareness and enhancing knowledge of autism. They achieve this through training, education, and the provision of information to both the public and professionals, fostering a more informed and inclusive society.

A Meeting of Minds and Hearts

The recent meeting with Mark Moffat was more than just an exchange of pleasantries; it was an opportunity for parents to share their challenges and concerns, particularly around education, social care, support plans, and crisis aversion.

Through its Community Connect service, Autism Anglia offers extensive support for young autistic individuals aged 0-25 and their families in North East Essex, including 1-on-1 assistance across various concerns.

A spokesman for Autism Anglia encapsulated the essence of the support offered: "Upon referring into Community Connect, you will be allocated a liaison who will support you and assist you in creating a plan with goals with the intention of supporting you and your family. As part of the service, we also aim to provide webinars and workshops on autism with the aim of further informing you about neurodiversity."

This new partnership exemplifies the strength found in unity and understanding, highlighting the importance of community support in navigating the journey of special educational needs and disabilities.

In collaboration Dream The Change and Autism Anglia are paving the way towards a more inclusive and supportive society for all.

A Successful Collaboration

The session was a success, 18 children enjoyed a sport session led and facilitated by Sarah Davison and Jessica Woods, Occupational therapists from Sport For Confidence.

Kevin and Paul Smith from Ability using Sport also provided invaluable support, contributing to an environment of fun, learning, and inclusion.

Mark Moffat from Autism Anglia offered practical support to families navigating the challenges of SEND. Jo Keys, Lead Community Liaison, Autism Anglia plans to join Parent tea sessions organised by Dream The Change for parents to inform, encourage and support families to help with a specific issue and parent courses, to give a specialist talk focusing on a specific diagnosis or issue.
