More People Know About Us Thanks To Our First Community Fair Event in Colchester
November 16, 2021
Well done to everyone who helped to greet people at Dream The Change’s stand at the Colchester Community Fair held at Firstsite Colchester at the beginning of November.
Hundreds of people attended and many of them learnt for the first time about our community interest company that works with families and carers from diverse backgrounds, who have additional needs children (SEND).
Our volunteers gave away additional needs toys to children with SEND at the event, which was organised at Firstsite, Colchester, by Will Quince MP.
“The Community Fair was a great opportunity for us to raise Dream The Change’s profile in Colchester,” said Jemal Allabayeva, a Director and Co-Founder of Dream The Change.
“We had a banner and flyers made especially for the event, so our stand would act as a shop window to let people know about us. We were able to pay for this thanks to grants from the National Lottery Community Fund and Essex Community Foundation.
“We were delighted with the number of people who visited our stand and some of the families involved with our organisation were there to tell people how we’ve supported them. We took down the contact details of new families who are now interested in getting involved with us.
“Colchester Community Fair proved to be a great way of letting more people know about our organisation, which supports families from diverse backgrounds who have children with special educational needs and disabilities.”
We work with ethnic minority families with SEND children. We are already connected with families from: Syria, Iraq, Poland, Sri-Lanka, Venezuela, Nigeria, Pakistan, Greece, Ghana and more.
Most of our trustees have children with additional needs so we know first-hand how challenging it can be. Our aim is to support each other for the benefit of everyone concerned.
We are here to listen to families’ concerns, identify any specific difficulties, share ways of building resilience, and tailor individual needs to deal with available service providers both locally, privately and within the NHS.
Dream The Change organises a variety of activities, including: Parent tea sessions, to help carers and parents and after school sports events, so youngsters can use up their surplus energy and socialise.
We also organise family excursions and day trips to various local attractions, including: Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park, Colchester Zoo, Jumpstreet Indoor Trampoline park Colchester, London Aquarium and many more.
