Dream The Change CIC want to say a "Big Thank You" to Kevin Smith and his team from
Ability using Sport for leading our Sport Sessions over the last school year.
Children connected with Dream The Change CIC love our Sport Sessions which have been attracting numerous families from diverse backgrounds.
The neurodiverse children and their siblings engage in various sports during these sessions held most Wednesdays during term time at Acorn Hall/St Anne's Community Centre, 252 Harwich Road, Colchester CO4 3DH.
They enjoy sports like cricket, tennis, basketball, Simon Says and bocce, but their favourite is dodgeball.
Children also have the opportunity to share their preferred game with the group, which is then played together.
It's an enjoyable time for parents and carers of the children too, as they have chance to chat and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
We would also like to thank Sarah Davison, a Senior Occupational Therapist (OT), and Coach Jessica Woods from Sport For Confidence who facilitated our Sports sessions, with Kevin and Paul Smith earlier this year.
Sarah has worked alongside both children and adults with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, mental health difficulties and sensory processing disorder, since qualifying as an OT.
As a Sensory Integration Practitioner, Sarah was passionate about overcoming the barriers sensory processing disorder may present for individuals, especially those who are motivated to participate in physical activity.
She was joined Jessica Woods, who as a coach, was passionate about helping to improve the confidence of our participants by supporting them to express themselves in an active and creative environment.
Children also enjoyed a dance session led by Jessica who runs a dance school at Clacton.
Late February, families connected with
Dream The Change, CIC were excited to meet Mark Moffat, Community Liaison from
Autism Anglia, whom we would also like to thank.
Parents and carers were able to have conversations with him and share their challenges around education, social care, support plans and crisis aversion with him.
Children who attend our Sport sessions are given Star of The Week certificates and praised for their efforts at our last Sport Session of the term. Well done to everyone for attending our Sports Sessions.
We’ve had some excellent feedback following our Sports Sessions. A. said, "We were referred to Dream the Change to get some support for our son N.
"N. is attending the sport sessions on Wednesdays at Acorn Hall St Annes, the structured environment that is created for children is making a big difference for N. He seems more focused and less overwhelmed. Structured play sessions have helped N. practice sharing and turn-taking, and it’s evident in how he engages with his classmates now.
"Thank you to all at Dream the Change."
