Twenty one children with special needs (SEND) connected with Dream The Change, CIC have received computers, thanks to the children’s charity, Little Lives UK.
We’ve had some excellent feedback from parents from diverse families whose children were each given an electronic device after our trustees identified a need.
“Dream The Change approached Little Lives to request computers for families connected with our Community Interest Company, as both organisations want to tackle technology poverty,” said our Director and Co-Founder, Jemal Allabayeva.
“During the UK lockdowns, it was identified by experts that some children suffered because they could not do lessons online as they did not have computers, which is being addressed by Little Lives UK and Dream The Change’s actions.”
Advisory Board Members from our organisation identified who would benefit from having a computer and over a number of weeks they were distributed to families.
We've received a big "Thank You" from the families who have been given laptops. One mother said,“My child has special education needs and struggles to follow the written instructions and on-paper tasks. He is a visual learner and can engage better with on-screen learning.
"Since the school homework is set online, a computer will help my child’s learning needs at home."
Another parent said, "I would like to thank you for the laptop as the laptop I had, had a broken screen and the system had slowed down. We really appreciate this laptop."
A third parent sent us a message saying, “I want to say a big thank you for the computer, I really appreciate it. It is going to be of great use for us. Thank you once again.”
Jemal added, "We are delighted Little Lives UK have supplied us with computers. Thank you.”
So far Little Lives UK has distributed more than 600 computers to children across the country to help with their education and to enhance their career prospects.
After distributing the computers to our families, we held a special online workshop run by ESafety (Protecting Everyone From Online Frauds) to advise parents how to keep their children safe on the Internet.
One parent said, "I really found the training informative. Great work Dream The Change, CIC. Thank you."
Another parent said, "It's great we know how to keep our children safe now. I learnt so much today. We take so much little things for granted as parents, but knowing the dangers does make the difference. I really appreciate what you do for our families here at Dream the Change. Thanks Jemal and team."
